| Description | The contribution keeps an eye on artistic representations of Saint Patrick in the early modern period. During this period its iconography underwent an interesting transformation. It will be based on the interpretation of the baroque drama Purgatory of St. Patrick from Pedro Calderón de la Barca, with theoretical support in the studies of Václav Černý. And at the same time, it will focus on the interpretation of works of art located in our territory. How the baroque imagination combined with the belief in miracles, purgatory and the intercessory role of saints is prescribed in cases of artistic representation of St. Patrick? What aesthetic principles does the Baroque dramatist work with when grasping the theme of the life of St. Patrick and the Purgatory of St. Patrick? |
