Citation
Description The paper focuses on the introduction of the theoretical concept of the so-called "visual expression in dramatic art" by Prof. Růžena Vacková, which is followingly applied to the scenographic analysis of two contemporary performances. Růžena Vacková (1901-1982), a professor of archaeology, art history and aesthetics, is the author of, among other things, an extensive publication entitled "Visual Expression in Dramatic Art", published in 1948, in which the specifics of visual expression in dramatic art are discussed. Some of her theses, even with the awareness of their possible anachronism, I relate to the above-mentioned productions: firstly, "Spis/ Růžena Vacková" (premiered 16 May 2022), prepared by the company „Krajinou přílivu“, and secondly, "Ženy držte huby!" of the company JEDL. I do so mainly through the phenomena of pathos and plasticity as found in many of the author's works on the nature of dramatic art and ancient reliefs.
