Description In my paper I intended to briefly introduce my doctoral research focusing predominantly on Bohemian Jesuits in the Early Modern Period, who witnessed indigenous uprisings in the northern regions of New Spain. I presented my research questions, partial conclusions and historical sources, especially of non-Hispanic origin, and their problematic interpretation. My presentation aimed to demonstrate the role of two specific missionaries from the Province of Bohemia, P. Joseph Neumann and P. Ignacio Xavier Keller, in the Spanish colonial society and their interactions on the frontier of New Spain during periods of turmoil. Depicting these two individuals, I also attempted to shortly outline the change in perception of Jesuit missions from the part of secular (judicial, administrative and military) authorities in the region.
