Description The most part of linguists pay attention to the function of dative as an object or an adverbial phrase. However, in observed languages the dative is found in the function of an indirect subject, too, e. g. in constructions denoting a possession, as well as in constructions with infinitive containing modal meanings of possibility or necessity. The autor analyses the relation of particular Old Russian constructions to corrsesponding ones in Greek and Latin.
