Description Professor Karel Vorovka (1879~1929) was one of the greatest philosophers in this country in the first three decades of the 20th century. Following a series of studies, the book is a systematic exposition of his life and work. It presents Vorovkas intellectual development from mathematics to epistemology, metaphysics and history of philosophy in a wider context of Czech and world philosophy. The parts of the book focusing on Vorovkas life deal with his family, schools (he taught at a high school as well as a college) and philosophical environment - his cooperation with The Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists, Union of Philosophy, Ruch filosofický and foreign philosophers. Part of the book consists of translations of Vorovkas French works, extant correspondence, bibliographical list of his works and reviews, and a number of photographs and documents relevant to his personal as well as professional character. The book has been published to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Vorovkas birth (3rd February, 1879) and the 80th anniversary of his death (15th January 1929).
