Description The paper is based on an analysis of a small corpus of student translations from English to Czech with focus on target text deficiencies with respect to functional sentence perspective. Three types of situations increasing the probability that an FSP-deficient solution will occur have been identified. Pedagogical interventions to address these as well as the significant individual variation in the error rate are proposed.
