At its meeting on 25 September 2023, the Academic Senate of the MU Faculty of Arts welcomed two new senators to its membership: Bc. Lucie Lindnerová (from SKAS) and Mgr. Karolína Stehlíková, Ph.D. (for KAP), who succeeded Šarlota Sedláčková and doc. Pavel Caha. The Faculty management introduced to the Senate the new Bursar of the Faculty, Ing. Jiří Velinský, with whom a short discussion followed.

Subsequently, some mandates in the Disciplinary Committee of the Faculty of Arts MU were extended or newly added. Dr. Bárta was also re-elected as a representative of the Senate in the Council of Universities.

Discussion followed on the application for an extension of the authorization to implement the Estetika and Aesthetics and Cultural Studies doctoral study programs. Ultimately, the Senate did not support these degree programs, and the request to extend their accreditation will be reworked and presented to the Senate at the next meeting.

The senators then discussed and approved the text of the FF MU annual report for 2022 and the admission requirements for 2024/2025.

The next item on the agenda was a discussion on the text Education and science cannot be a source of cuts! The government plans to support the priority of education, science, and research by reducing spending in the state budget, which emerged from a meeting of the conference of rectors of higher education unions and other higher education institutions at Bethlehem Chapel. The following statement concludes the discussion:

AS FF MU supports the statement of the representation of universities Education and science cannot be the source of cuts! and the demands of the Hour of Truth initiative, and expresses solidarity with the upcoming strike at FF UK.

Further steps will follow, and the Senate will inform the academic community by mass email.

The detailed course of the meeting of the Senate is recorded in the minutes.

The next meeting of the Senate will be held on 23 October 2023.
