The programme can be studied as a single subject or in combination with another programme.
The main aim of the submitted study program is the preparation of highly qualified specialists for their subsequent application in professional professions both in the areas of library and information science, information science, academia, science, research, development and innovation. In the context of the field of Information and Library Studies, graduates are increasingly demanding the ability to integrate, critically evaluate and use acquired theoretical and applied knowledge of the field as well as transdisciplinary. The emphasis is on a deep insight into interdisciplinary overlaps including a methodological background, which closely relates to the qualitative shift in the establishment of quality language education into the educational curriculum and related learning outcomes, including both verbal and written oral expression of students and subsequent graduates in English. Strong emphasis is placed on the development of lifelong learning and creative thinking.
Therefore, the sub-objectives of the Masters Program following the above-mentioned core objectives include graduating from the Masters Program
“We are interested in people, technology and information. We use design methods, look for technology in the company and learn from the data. We are developing the library tradition and looking for ways forward.”
The study program emphasizes the interconnection of pregradual preparation with the field of practice. The workplace has long been developed and is constantly expanding cooperation with institutions that provide relevant interaction between students and industry practice. In the curriculum, the Jobbox - a sophisticated and functional, and a system of offers and inquiries concerning practices, internships and field projects is still anchored. The Jobbox takes the form of a web portal that gathers demand and offers for students that are specified in the educational content of the optional subjects ISKM18 Practice and Placements and the ISKM19 Field Project.
Graduates are prepared to master the theoretical, methodological and ethical fundamentals of information science and librarianship, the creation and management of library and information systems, information education, work with information sources in digital libraries and database centers. They are able to apply theoretical knowledge in library and information practice using modern information and communication technologies. Within elective courses, they can focus on developing information services, processes and technologies to ensure them, work with literature and information resources, or providing information support to science. The curriculum emphasizes methodological and linguistic preparation, and graduates are also prepared to apply in the field of science, research and innovation in the field of information studies and librarianship, also in a transdisciplinary context.

Who the programme is intended for: The programme is offered to graduates of all Bachelor’s degree programmes.
Subject matter of the entrance examination: The entrance examination is intended for applicants from the field of information studies and library studies as well as for those from other disciplines. It takes the form of a professional discussion and is designed to be interdisciplinary; knowledge from related or different areas is considered an asset. The examination is conducted as a group interview via MS Teams. The group usually consists of five members, although the actual number depends on the number of applicants. The examining committee has two members. The time allocated for the group discussion is 45 minutes.
The structure of the examination is as follows (the order and form of the questions may be adjusted according to the course of the discussion):
a) Applicant’s introduction (15 points)
Presentation of previous studies, bachelor’s thesis or other relevant experience, and motivation for studying the field of Information and Libratry Studies.
b) Subject-specific question (25 points)
A question based on topics from the book Introduction to Information Science. A basic understanding of issues related to libraries, information organization, information behavior, topics connected with artificial intelligence, and the relationship between humans and digital technologies is expected.
c) Imaginative-speculative question (25 points)
Assessment of the ability to conceptualize a selected contemporary social problem from the perspective of information science and library studies and to consider possible solutions in light of trends and challenges in the field.
d) Discussion of scholarly reading (25 points)
Reflection on one scholarly publication chosen by the applicant. The text may come from the field of ISL or another discipline, but its relevance to information studies must be clearly justified.
e) Applicant’s orientation within the field (10 points)
Presentation of areas of interest, planned professional development, or a general topic for a future master’s thesis.
Waiver of the entrance examination: The entrance examination will be waived for applicants whose overall average study grade in the Bachelor’s programme of Information and Library Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, has not exceeded 1.5. Applicants can ask for a waiver for the entrance examination via the e-application form, section "Application for waiver of the entrance examination".

The evaluation focuses primarily on:
A basic disciplinary orientation at the level of a publication is expected: Bawden, D. & Robinson, L. (2017). Úvod do informační vědy. Flow. At the same time, for question (d), the applicant is expected to make their own selection of literature related to the field of information science and library studies.

Who the programme is intended for: The programme is offered to graduates of all Bachelor’s degree programmes.
Subject matter of the entrance examination: The entrance examination for the follow-up Master’s programme consists of an oral interview in a group, which must be completed successfully to gain admission. The group interview is based on the solution of various field topics (information literacy, technology in education, service design, the role of libraries in society, a book in the changes of centuries, etc.) and a discussion of the problem. The applicant’s reactions and argumentation are evaluated.
Waiver of the entrance examination: The entrance examination will be waived for applicants whose overall average study grade in the Bachelor’s programme of Information and Library Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, has not exceeded 1.5. Students have a pre-defined list of required courses, which are supplemented with selective and elective courses. The student pays full attention to the single field of study chosen.

After graduating from the Master's program, Ph.D. studies in Philology, Media Studies, Contemporary Arts and other creative industries can be continued at the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Social Studies or the Pedagogical Faculty of Masaryk University, or at other universities.
