This fee-paying full-time mode programme is open to those individuals holding a Master's degree in a field related to English philology (literature and/or linguistics) or teaching English (as either a first or second language) from an institution of higher education in the Czech Republic or abroad.
Now you can choose between two specializations in the Ph.D. program:
Experimental and Applied Linguistics
Have you selected a field of study and your thesis topic? Find out which supervisors are accepting new students at the department you have chosen for your Ph.D. studies at the Faculty of Arts.
Then, contact your future supervisor directly. They will serve as your guide and thesis consultant throughout your studies. They can also help you formulate your thesis topic.

You do not have to come to Brno personally to take the entrance exam. The result of the admission process depends on the quality of the documents that you provide. Those will be assessed by the admission committee and you will be notified about the results via e-mail.

1 January - 30 April for the enrollment in the Fall semester
1 July - 31 October for the enrollment in the Spring semester
Documents set out above in the Terms of Admission are required to be provided in digital form and attached to the online application by April 30th or October 31st.
Tuition fees: € 2,000/academic year (degree program taught in English).
The QS World University Rankings by Subject are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.
In the 2019 Ranking, our university has improved its score in many areas and a total of 8 study programs have to the top 550 best subjects (up from 5 in 2018).
Our English Language & Literature study program has ranked 201–250.
All students of this program are entitled to study two semesters of Czech for foreigners free of charge. It is not obligatory but it might be handy.
