Invitation to the AS FF MU meeting for the election of the Dean

24 Dec 2021

No description

The academic community was recently informed that discussions of the individual chambers of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University with the candidates for the Dean of the Faculty of Arts -doc. Mgr. Irena Radová, Ph.D., and doc. Mgr. et Mgr. Markéta Kulhánková, Ph.D. Both candidates presented their programs and the teams with which they intend to implement them. Academics, as well as other faculty members, were then also able to be present, either physically or online, at the public meeting of the Academic Senate on 15 December 2021, where the two dean's teams presented themselves together, among others in the presence of the current Dean of the Faculty and the Rector of Masaryk University.

Thus, nothing prevents the public election session of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University from which the new dean for the term of office from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2026 should emerge. It will take place, as previously announced, on 10 January 2022 at 3:00 PM in lecture room B2.13. Unfortunately, the current epidemiological situation and the restrictions resulting from it do not allow the full capacity of this largest faculty lecture room to be used, so in order to maintain proper spacing between those present, the room capacity is limited to 60 people. Thus, in addition to the two dean teams, the Rector, AS FF MU senators, members of the current management, and the recorder, one academic staff member from each faculty institute or department can physically attend the election session, regardless of whether the head or member of the institute or department is already represented in AS FF MU or in one of the dean teams. Others interested in the election session will be able to follow it via MS Teams.

The election of the Dean, or the vote on the proposal for the appointment of the Dean - the election must be confirmed by the Rector of Masaryk University - is governed by the provisions of the Rules of Procedure of the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. According to paragraph 1 of Article 20, voting is secret. Paragraph 6 specifies that the candidate who receives an absolute majority of votes from all members of the AS FF MU will be elected. If no one is elected in the first round, the election shall be repeated in accordance with Paragraph 7. In the event that no one is elected in the second round, paragraph 8 stipulates the necessity to repeat the election at a later date, usually in one week. If this attempt is not successful, the Senate Electoral Committee must, in accordance with Rule 20(9) of the Rules of Procedure, hold a new election no sooner than one month after the last unsuccessful round.

If, however, the Senate election session on 10 January 2022 is successful and results in a proposal for the appointment of a new Dean, nothing will prevent this appointment, because, as the Rector of Masaryk University, Prof. MUDr. Martin Bareš, Ph.D., stated at the public meeting of the AS FF MU on 15 December 2021, whether one or the other candidate wins the election, he will unequivocally appoint and install her.

Václav Štěpánek
Chairman of the AS FF MU
