Popis The large number of adult learners with little or no schooling in Europe is a challenge that those involved in the teaching of Italian to foreigners are called upon to take up. This is a new field of intervention, which has, however, a consistent theoretical horizon behind it: Literacy Acquisition and Second Language Learning for Adults (LESLLA). In this field of research it is assumed that the absence of writing conditions the acquisition of oral skills, which would be slowed down by a reduced ability to analyse the linguistic input, segmenting the phonetic continuum and marking morphological boundaries. On this basis, the intervention explores the possibility of tracing quantitative and qualitative specificities in the acquisition of verbal morphology in L2 Italian of illiterate people, with respect to the general progress of interlanguages described in the literature. The investigation makes use of a corpus of Italian L2 consisting of the transcriptions of the speech of illiterate subjects attending the School of Italian Language for Foreigners at the University of Palermo.
