Kunst für alle? Einige Bemerkungen zur Stempelverzierten Keramik im östlichen Frühlatenebereich

| Popis | The stamped ornamentation on wheel-made pottery belongs to the earliest artistic production in the eastern La Tene area. The stamped decoration is associated with the new technology of the potter’s wheel, and only on a limited selection of typical vase shapes. In all regions concentric circles, arcs and »S«-shapes were used; zoomorphic and floral motifs are less common. Although small variations may be detected between the various regions, stamp-decorated wheel-made pottery is everywhere distributed »democratically« in open settlements, defended hillforts and cemeteries. According to the present state of our knowledge, stamp-decorated pottery was not found preferentially in rich graves with wagons or bronze vessels, and we cannot speak of a »courtly« artform or art for a social élite. Furthermore there is no clear evidence for the existence of a centrally controlled production or distribution of this kind of pottery. Stampdecorated pottery is probably the expression of common ideas in the eastern La Tene region, from Bavaria to Transdanubia – perhaps represented in all social levels. |
