Popis Public service stipulations include the provision of content that informs and educates, helps imagine the nation, enriches the lives and culture of its citizens. Reality TV is one of the most growing, vivid, and controversial genres in contemporary TV broadcasting from popular culture, sports, lifestyle to arts or minorities. Its genealogy comes from documentary films, but today it is considered the bottom of the TV industry when compared to the artistic documentary film. But how has this trend of reality TV impacted public service broadcasting? This paper focuses on Reality TV produced by Czech public service television (Česká televize), the biggest (and only one) public services broadcaster in the Czech Republic. In the Czech Republic, it is currently controlled by three television companies - Czech public service television (public service television), TV Nova, and TV Prima (commercial television). Does making reality TV help win public service television competitions for viewers? The paper focus on three examples: docusoap, living history a docu-reality. Three different television formats - three different creative approaches to reality tv - three different ways in which the filmmakers have combined the service of public television and entertainment connected with reality tv. Research for this paper is based on the author’s experience as a dramaturgist in Czech public service television.
