Popis Current research of Native Faith movements in postsocialist Europe showed domination of ethnic-oriented contemporary Pagan groups. Slovakia is no exception. The conference paper will discuss in greater detail the connection between patriotism, nationalism and ethnic identity among Slovak Neopagans on the example of "rodné duchovno "of Pagan leader Žiarislav and "staroverstvo "of the local branch of Slavic-Aryan Vedas led by Vladimír Laubert. The following question will be discussed: How is national and ethnic identity constructed among contemporary Slovak Pagans? Is Slovak Neopaganism openly nationalistic? How much is the Pagan concept of national identity different from traditional Christian? The answers will be based on the author's ongoing ethnographical research among contemporary Pagans in Slovakia, information from informal interviews ad the study of books, music, and internet articles produced by the local Pagan community. A better understanding of nationalist aspects of Slovak Paganism will contribute to the discussion of the current socio-political trends in the Slovak alternative spiritual scene. The presentation will also briefly discuss the future of Slovak contemporary Paganism regarding possible transformation from underground to a more mainstream position in the religious field.
