Popis Slovak museums began to form mainly in the 2nd half of the 19th century and their development was only marginally connected with the development of heritage protection in the Kingdom of Hungary. With the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, the relationship between heritage authorities and museums was to change fundamentally. The basic prerequisites for this were created by the founding of the Government Commissariat for the Preservation of Monuments, or its successor, the State Office for Heritage Protection, which encompassed the organisation of museums in Slovakia. The contribution aims to point out the relationships between heritage authorities and museums in Slovakia, mainly in the 2nd half of the 19th and 1st half of the 20th century.
