Popis The Historical Atlas of Population Development in Slovakia (late 19th century – mid 20th century) represents one of the primary outcomes of the APVV project titled "Transformation of Population Development in Slovakia from a Regional Perspective from the Late 19th Century to the Mid 20th Century," which has been implemented by the research team since 2021. The atlas features 103 cartograms and is divided into four sections. The first section captures the trends in marriage rates. The second section, dedicated to fertility and birth rates, includes not only crude birth rates (1870 – 1942) but also fertility rates among women, detailing the average number of children per woman by age. The 1930 census provided more detailed information on women's fertility, allowing for the analysis of childless women. An important and intriguing indicator of family behavior is the distinction between marital and non-marital fertility (from 1880). The third section of the atlas addresses population mortality, over time and space, not only the development of the crude mortality rate but also life expectancy for men and women, along with trends in infant mortality. The final section of the atlas focuses on natural reproduction and the natural increase/decrease of the population, derived from the relationship between birth and death rates. Data used in these sections ranges from 1870 to 1942.
