Popis Throughout history, effective weapons or tactics have been widely copied, because the technology of warfare is an area in which cultures have readily copied their neighbours or rivals and adapted different strategic plans to overcome their opponents. It remains a fact that imitation is the highest form of military compliment. Byzantine Empire is no exception to this rule. Byzantium has showed remarkable military adaptability and willingness to learn from its close enemies, either recruiting mercenaries from the nearby nations, who were transferring their own warfare and military tactics culture or adopting similar techniques in manufacturing. This exceptional strategy enabled the Empire to survive for so long. In this scientific article, the mutual influences on medieval swords are observed. These commonly appear on the borders of Byzantine Empire with the nearby Arab nations, but also sword guards and pommels of this type are found in the Balkan Peninsula, so this is why we have attempted to organize our material based on geographic criteria.
